Skydock

The Chicago Skydock represents a new trend in the storage of luxury power boats. This prototype was developed in response to increased scarcity of marina slips, development of urban waterfront land to other residential and industrial uses and increased insurance requirements for boats stored outside.

The building design features cladding of metal panels and glass corners with a vertical display of the powerboats as an advertising element. Green features include clerestory windows for daylighting, facility parking lot bio-swale drainage and vertical gardening at the building base.

Approximately 800 vertically stored power boats are accessed by two computer operated bridge cranes pre-programmed with the weight and dimension of each specific boat. The Skydock facility includes a harbor, support building featuring dining room with views to the Chicago River, locker rooms, boat provision areas and member queuing deck.
